With an abundance of Top 10 sneaker lists floating about, we thought we’d take a slightly different approach to the practice, limiting our Top 10 picks to only those sneakers we actually wore this year: if the shoe wasn’t on our feet in 2012, it was off limits. Highsnobiety’s Managing Editor Pete Williams is first up.
10. Vans Half Cab 20th Anniversary – Steve Caballero Edition
I grew up skating and it’s still my biggest influence to this day. 20 years of the Half Cab was worth celebrating. I didn’t get the Supreme exclusive duct tape version, but the Steve Cab red version got plenty of wear.
9. Vans Old Skool “Jazz Stripe” 35th Anniversary
The Old Skool is a go-to. One of my all-time favorites. Especially in the classic two-tone blue. For the 35th they flipped the materials and teched them out. Looks the same but the guts are super tech. Sleeper.
8. Burn Rubber x New Balance MT580 “White Collar”
Burn Rubber really brought the 580 home with this pack. As with Ronnie’s 1300 (further down), they didn’t over do it, yet were able to set themselves apart from the GRs with just enough detailing. Well done.
7. Vans Syndicate Authentic Snakeskin by Jason Dill
Another shoe I never tire of is the Vans Authentic/Era. A skater I never tire of is Jason Dill and this year he got a shot at doing his own pair, going all out with the silver snakeskin. Fucking Awesome.
6. Dover Street Market x Nike Air Force 1
The Air Force 1 made a big comeback in 2012 and this was my favorite of the XXX releases, Comme des Garcons connection and all.
5. Ronnie Fieg x ASICS Gel Lyte III “Selvedge Denim”
Ronnie really made a name for himself with the Gel Lyte 3 so it only made sense to revisit that model for the KITH 1-year Anniversary. This Selvedge Denim make up was one of his best Asics yet.
4. Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 1300 “Salmon Sole”
Amazing materials, clean colorway with just enough pop, the best NB silhouette and they’re Made in US. Ronnie did well with these. I’ve had a hard time keeping these off my feet.
3. Kicks/HI x Converse All Star Chuck Taylor “Tiger Camo”
I’ve been following the Kicks/HI crew ever since their ALOHA Dunks. I’d say this is their best yet.. Black tiger camo and a hi-top Chuck. Deadly combo. Whoever says camo is dead needs only to look at these..
2. Nike Flyknit Trainer Volt
Nike really changed the game with these. That Volt “as seen on TV” was the one for me.
1. Air Jordan IV Black/Red
I finally got my hands on a pair of these after lusting after them for years if not decades. Pretty much a perfect sneaker in a perfect colorway.
